RE: Do you use your washing/dryer machine?

We have a combo washer/dryer and use it frequently. It has limitations as you mentioned but we have learned to work within them and so far so good. The one that we have is the Splendide 2100S. It is much better than our previous 2000. I would prefer a stacked unit but it was not available in the unit that we currently own and since we do not plan on another one for some time, this one will have to do.

RE: Freightliner, Newmar questions

There is a connector for the brake controller. It is probably taped or tied to one of the wiring harness close to the steering column. You can get an adapter (pigtail) from that to the Prodigy from most RV supply houses. I have a Freightliner chassis and the same controller.

RE: Allison 6 Speed Transmission in the Mountains

You said that you have a Sportscoach 40 ft Elite. That happens to be the same coach that I drive. You have the CAT C-7 350 HP. Allison 6 speed with the single window display. Going up hill I let the transmission do its own thing till it shifts down to 4th then I manually shift down to the same gear to prevent it from hunting between 4th and 5th. I then keep the RPM at about 2200 till I am over the hill if it does not require a further down shift.
Going down I try to use the exhaust brake to keep the speed controlled according to the grade so that I feel safe. I will use short, hard applications of the service brake when and if needed.
I have the PXRB PacBrake installed so I do get a little more braking action at lower RPM than the standard exhaust brake.

RE: Got it, Love it

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing. We all have those "adventures" and learning experiences. Last time out we spent about an hour replacing a battery disconnect relay at 10 pm. Wife holding the flashlight and me doing the work. I was fortunate to have a replacement relay with me. Fun comes in different flavors.

RE: Out 1st real trip please help/advise

Not knowing your ages or your tolerance for driving but I can tell you how we set up our days. We are a 72 year old couple and have used about the same schedule for several years. Since we are retired, we do not have to really push for time. We do not schedule over 300 miles a day and do not drive more than three days without laying over an extra day. Most times we lay over an extra day every two days. Because of the wife's physical limitations, I do all the driving.
Because this is your first trip out I would schedule a couple of short days just to get used to the motorhome. That is assuming that you have the time in your schedule.
Good luck and just have fun.

RE: Towing a car

I use a 21 ft. overall, 17.5 ft. bed Featherlite aluminum flat bed car hauler to haul either my truck or PT Cruiser or maybe the Camry. That is the beauty of it, I can carry which ever one I need for that particular trip. Have not had any problem parking the trailer so far. Just completed a 5600 mile, two month trip and had to disconnect three times on the complete trip. No problems backing the trailer with the motorhome using the backup camera and the mirrors. This is something you cannot do with a dolly or flat towing. I know the advantages of flat towing and appreciate them. However, I also know that there are also advantages to the trailer. I have four wheel electric brakes on the trailer that I know work and not some added on system that was not designed as part of the vehicle. I can continually monitor the connection of the brakes and the braking force being applied. I also do not have to worry about destroying the front end of my vehicle or the front tires, both problems that I have seen on flat towed vehicles. To each his own, but I will put up with the extra couple of minutes required to load or unload the car/truck on the trailer for the added safety and protection for my vehicle.

RE: So my buddy says........

There is a good possibility that such a short DP would be very light in the front and not handle well. You can only make the rear end so short, approximately 10.5 to 11 feet and that does not give you a lot of front end left to counterbalance the weight of the engine and transmission. It could be done with some very careful engineering but certainly no shorter than 34 feet. But that is just my opinion, others may disagree.

RE: Anyone else at the KOA in Nashville.

Don Don,
I agree that they do have a lot to do and the coffee bar is nice, laundry clean, the deluxe sites really nice. When I stay there those are the only ones that I use as we are 61 feet long with our trailer (car hauler). I am glad to hear that they got the Wi-Fi fixed as that makes it much better for us should be decide to stay there again. I do use KOA frequently because they are close to where I want to be. We have one in Hixton, WI that we will drive out of the way to visit. Nice park and even nicer owners. Hope to meet you in Nashville some time. We are there 3 or 4 times a year.

RE: Anyone else at the KOA in Nashville.

Don Don,
Since you are on line they must have the Wi-Fi fixed since my last visit there. We have a daughter that lives in Nashville. Used to stay there but finally started staying at another place further out of town north of Goodlettsville. Much less money and very nice. Also their wi-fi works all over the park.

RE: 50 Amp EMS system

jispa,
If you have any other information, please let us know. We want to help but you are our only eyes and ears for the problem. As Tenn Stud said, probably the noise you are hearing is coming from a 12 volt item somewhere.
Good luck.

RE: Question - Generator vs. Drive Motor

One thing that you may not have checked yet, there are two circuit breakers on the generator. If one of them is tripped then only one of the AC units will work. Check that and see if it is tripped.

RE: 50 Amp EMS system

You say when the third breaker is on that controls the fridge and central vac is on the problems start. Is it when the breaker is on or when one or both of these appliances is in use? Try unplugging the appliances connected to this breaker, especially the central vac and see if the problem is still there. I wonder if there are other plugs wired to this breaker but not shown? It seems that part of what you are loosing is 120 VAC and part is 12 volt and this puzzles me. I understand that a loss of 12 volts can cause some appliances such as the fridge and air conditioner not to work because they have lost control voltage.

It does have problems sometimes but I usually go somewhere else and come back and it works OK. I believe that the server is just getting overloaded with the amount of traffic. The problems of success.

RE: Retractable Discharge Hose

I do not know if it will fit exactly or if it will require some modification but I use sump pump hose that is found at any store like Lowes or Home Depot. It comes in 24 ft lengths. I believe that it is 1.25 inches in diameter. I installed my own macerator pump so I made the connections fit this hose from the beginning. It is normally about $10 per 24 ft.
Edited to Provide: I am sure that there are 1 inch to 1.25 inch barb adapters available at Lowes or Home Depot. I have used them on other projects. Thought I would add this for your information as the cost difference is quite significant. I carry two spare lengths with me so that I can make any length connection to a sewer. Mine are connected with quick disconnect fittings.

RE: Metal Carports

I have a cover for our RV that is 47 ft long and 14.5 ft at the peak, 13 ft at the eaves. It is 18.5 ft wide. There is a 12 ft by 18.5 ft shop on the back of the cover. The floor is concrete. The sides come down to about 4 ft from the ground. It offers exellent cover for our 40 ft coach.

RE: Motorhome not sitting level

Agree with Wolfe10, it sounds like a body to frame fit issue. The measurements you made pretty much say that the frame and suspension are correctly aligned/adjusted. In my opinion you should not lower the airbag height to compensate for it as you will then have the suspension incorrectly adjusted. This can cause all kinds of problems including weight shift problems.

RE: Hit by tire debris!

If you have the clear film on the front as you mentioned, do not use any cleaner or polish that has an abrasive in it as it will scratch the film. Alcohol will remove most marks from the film and 303 protectant will give it a new surface protection. Diamond Shield says only 303 on theirs.
